Montgomery Flea Market Is Just Like a Mini Mall
Every now and again a merchant in your town will come up with enough money to buy some airtime and create a cheesy commercial that is so bad that you can’t forget it. Or so funny that you love it. I saw this commercial last week, and it has to be the funniest commercial I have seen in years.
I live in Philadelphia, but I have to say if I lived within 200 miles of Montgomery, Alabama I would set aside a Saturday just to drive to this flea market.
The downside of the commercial is that it is very catchy, and everyone who sees it has it stuck in their heads for days to come. So if you find yourself saying, “It’s just like a mini mall!” for no reason, you’ll know why…
SalesGenie.com Omits Blacks from Racist Ad Campaign
There were two reasons I watched the Super Bowl last night: the first was to see if the Giants were going to make my day and send the Patriots home with a broken record, and a warehouse full of books that will never see the light of day. The other reason was to check out the commercials.
The talking stain Tide ad was one of my favorites:
But the ads that really burned my biscuits were those damn SalesGenie.com ads. These idiots spent $2.7 million and this is what they came up with?
When you describe the first one it sounds like the beginning of a bad ethnic joke, “A fat Panda walks into a bamboo furniture store…” Don’t forget to give the Panda a thick Chinese accent…
The other one actually includes an animated man with an Indian accent, and his seven kids. Unbelievable…
How dare Vin Gupta exclude the African American community by not having a rapping sales exec with a fake-ass aluminum grill upset because of low sales, and call on salesgenie.com for help, and then become so successful that he and his 3 baby’s mommas can afford platinum grills with diamonds? As an African American I am totally offended that we were not included in this racist ad campaign. Don’t they realize that Al Sharpton is sitting at home, waiting to thrust himself into the public eye? And it doesn’t take much to get Al out there, but you gotta give him a little something to work with.
Seriously, the sad thing is that Gupta felt that he was cleverly targeting the two demographics that he felt would bring him the most money. The sadder thing that Gupta himself is Indian, and did not see the harm in these ads.
